Sales of second homes not only increased by 10-percent during 2011 and 2012, but also soared with a 23-percent increase in the median price, as reported by the National Association of Realtors. Home sales in October, 2013, experienced a 13 percent increase from October, 2012. Who’s behind the luxury home real estate boom? Baby boomers. Seeking an active retirement lifestyle, 80 percent of second- home buyers noted wanting to use the property recreationally as a vacation home or family retreat. These buyers are looking for luxury amenities at their fingertips such as golfing, tennis, fine dining and a social scene to mix in.
Andy and Deborah Grooms of Ruidoso, New Mexico, found exactly what they were looking for in their second home at Motorcoach Country Club, the nation’s only 5-star luxury RV resort. With custom builds that maintain the comforts of home and the highly coveted Southern California warm winters, the Grooms say what appealed to them most about the property is the upscale living. “We love the Top of the Falls on-site restaurant, the workout and swimming facilities, and being in a great town with lots of amenities, and lots, and lots to do,” says Andy. The couple goes on to further support the statistics of second-home buyers’ strong considerations for a family retreat by asserting one of the purchase-deciding factors as being the sense of community and social-life felt at Motorcoach Country Club. “We meet very interesting and fun people here,” says Deborah, “It’s like old-neighborhood America where people sit out on their porches and visit. It’s like a throwback to a much more wholesome time in America.” Of course, the porches are now custom marble and slate outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and private docks on the more than two miles of water ways; but, the sentiment remains the same, enjoying a warm evening with lively friends and neighbors.
